/ world today news/ The question of how to approach suspected corruption among high-ranking politicians and civil servants polarizes Bulgarian society. 48% of Bulgarians insist on resignations even in case of suspicion of taking a bribe, according to an express poll by “Gallup”.

The same percentage, however, believe that an investigation and evidence should be awaited first. “The data clearly show that among at least half of Bulgarians there is a kind of “presumption of guilt” of politicians – in the eyes of the public, they are guilty even without investigation, court, etc. Therefore, the “quick” resignations correspond to public expectations,” the sociologists comment.

Almost the same division is observed regarding the upcoming vote of no confidence against the government due to corruption and nepotism. 50 percent of those polled support the BSP and DPS attack against the cabinet, against 42 percent against. The curious thing is that as many as 58% reject the request of the DPS “United Patriots” to leave the government. Gallup sees this as a sign that there are no public expectations for a change in the power configuration. Dissatisfaction with the rulers is rather provoked by suspicions of corruption than by GERB’s alliance with the nationalists.

Public opinion remains pessimistic about the situation in the country. This can be seen in the attitude towards the protests that accompany the examination and adoption of the state budget. 52% believe that the resentment of unions, police and young scientists is not accidental, but a sign of a worsening situation. However, another 42% objected that what was happening was common in budget discussions, possibly because the protesters wanted more money.

Gallup’s analysis shows that there is “almost automatic approval for any measures of state intervention” among Bulgarians. As an example, sociologists give the solid support (55%) received by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov for his intervention in the dispute between the Ministry of Economy and EMKO. The same share approves his actions in the case with “Dunarit”.

DESPAIR

The vast majority of Bulgarians (79%) believe that the health care system is getting worse in the last few years. Only 15% see an improvement in her work. Negativism prevails even among supporters of the ruling party.
