The Givova Scafati announced the signing of the Ghanaian centre-back Amide Abiola Brimah; the best shot blocker in G-League history arrives on the Road to Glory.
The “big man” that was missing from the coach’s chessboard Marcelo Nicola is the colossus Brimah. 213 cm of pure power, the native of Accra is a 1994 class who brings with him an important pedigree and all the characteristics that the management and technical staff were looking for to complete the roster of Givova 2024/25.
His career discovered high-level stages already in college, at UConn he won the 2013/14 NCAA title at the end of his first season; in the 4 years of his stay at the Connecticut Huskies he recorded 6.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in about 22 minutes of use per game (126 matches). Not chosen in the 2017 draft, Amida found space in the G-League with the satellite team of the San Antonio Spurs (Austin Spurs), with whom in addition to being included in the best defensive quintet of the season thanks to over 7 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per shoe, he won the title against Raptors 905. At the end of the 2017/18 season came his first European adventure, at Partizan Belgrade, where he once again recorded dizzying numbers: 9.2 points and 5.3 rebounds in just over 14 minutes which helped the Serbian team reach the championship semifinals.
He returned to America, still in the G-League, for the next two seasons, but his abundant 8 points and 8 rebounds on average (in addition to the “usual” almost 3 blocks on average) earned him the call to the “upstairs”: his NBA debut with the Indiana Pacers came in April 2021. The following year he returned to Europe, where with Filou Oostende he won the BNXT League Super Cup and the Belgian championship, contributing with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks on average to the club’s 23rd title. His last stint in the old continent dates back to 2022/23, the season in which Brimah wore the Bourg-en-Bresse jersey in the French A league, reached the EuroCup round of 16 and, again, the championship semifinals. In the last year he split his time, once again in the G-League, between Grand Rapids Gold and Santa Cruz Warriors. Last spring, with the “satellite” team of the iconic California franchise, the Golden State Warriors, he became the league’s record holder for most blocked shots.
In its first Italian adventure, Brimah arrives in Scafati thanks to a further collaboration between the yellow and blue company, the main sponsor EuroRida of the Rispoli family and the top sponsor Beta Spare Parts of the Scarfati family.
Statement from the sports director, Eugenio Agostinelli: «With Brimah we conclude the roster for next season. We were looking for a profile like his, who would guarantee us protection of the rim in defense and presence in the area in attack. He will have to make his energy and his ability to play above the rim available to the team. We are sure that his ambition will join perfectly with that of his teammates, to help us achieve the best possible result”.
Athlete’s statement Amida Brimah: «I am happy and excited, this project stimulates me. I can’t wait to get to the city and get to work to help the team grow and win as many games as possible».
