Female weightlifter Kim Soo-hyun (29, Busan City Sports Council) failed to win a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The ‘fail’ verdict at the end of the video review was disappointing.
Kim Soo-hyun lifted a total of 250kg and placed 6th out of 13 in the women’s 81kg weightlifting competition held at the South Paris Arena in Paris, France on the 11th (Korean time).
Kim Soo-hyun lifted 110 kg in the first stage of the lift, but after a video review, it was confirmed that it was a failure. He succeeded in the second period and registered 113kg in the third period, but was found to have failed again in the video analysis.
Kim Soo-hyun, who was pushed down to 6th place in the deadlift, started competing for a medal again by lifting 140 kg in the first period of the clean and jerk, but did not lift 147 kg in the second and third periods.
A judgmental turn followed in the clean and the eagle. In the first round, he attempted the 140kg challenge and succeeded. Perhaps aware of the previous video review, he came back and lowered the barbell even though the buzzer sounded.
In the second period, he lifted 147kg and kept it up for a long time and it seemed to be successful. The referee’s decision was unanimously ‘successful’ with the three as white lights.
However, the jury’s review continued abruptly, and the verdict was changed to ‘failure’ due to the dislocated left arm. He lost strength in the third period due to several confirmations that he reversed the decision.

If he had succeeded in the second round, it would have been a personal best for both snatch, clean and jerk, and overall.
Kim Soo-hyun met with reporters after the match and said, “Yesterday, there was an ‘impossible incident’ in which the Italian player (Antonio Pizzolatto) was initially considered a failure, but to reverse the decision as a video success. reviewed amid cheers from the crowd.” He said, “Because of that, today “I think the referees saw it more sharply,” he said.
He responded with a firm attitude, saying, “It’s because I’m not good enough,” and “I’m also a poor player, so I think that was more obvious.”
He continued, “I know that many people support me, but I am very sorry that I was not able to give all that strength to the barbell.” “I will come as a ‘strong character’ (short for strong character),” he promised.
Previously, Kim Soo-hyun lifted 140 kg in the second period of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics held in 2021, but the referee declared a failure, saying ‘the barbell was shaken’.
