Mark Uth injured after only five minutes

Bitter news for 1. FC Köln: Mark Uth has to leave the field injured after only five minutes in the match against SV Elversberg.

A tough afternoon for the Billy Goats. The FC only managed a draw against SV Elversberg. Perhaps worse for the 1. FC Cologne: Mark Uth had to leave the field injured after only five minutes.

Even before the match against SV Elversberg, Mark Uth was considered the great hope for 1. FC Cologne. No wonder, the Billy Goats’ offense was lame once again last weekend. The Cologne team did not pose a real threat against Hamburger SV. Linton Maina was the first to score for the FC. During the week, FC coach Gerhard Struber stressed that Uth was fit again and was therefore of course a candidate for the squad. The Cologne player was actually in Elversberg, although not in the starting eleven. After a good hour, Uth came on for the once again disappointing Downs. And so hopes rested on the attacker. But those hopes came to an end very quickly.

Bad luck with injuries continues

Without any outside influence, Uth remained sitting on the pitch less than five minutes after being substituted. Even if a diagnosis is still completely unknown, the images were very reminiscent of last winter, when Mark Uth injured his knee. Just a few moments after being substituted, the offensive player had to leave the field again. Uth held his hand in front of his eyes and kept shaking his head. The offensive player was consoled by young keeper Jonas Urbig. At least Gerhard Struber gave the all-clear after the game, saying that, based on initial impressions, things didn’t look so bad. However, further examinations will not take place until Sunday.

But after the injury history of the past two seasons, the coach’s words are mixed with a fair amount of scepticism. Last summer, after a “disastrous year”, as he called the season, Uth worked hard to make his comeback as soon as possible. After several operations, he was only able to make five short appearances. But last season the attacker was again out on several occasions. He was again unable to make more than 13 appearances. This is also why Uth should be slowly introduced to the team and received individual training. Most recently, Struber was happy about the opportunity to gain more “wit” and “sophistication” through Uth.
