Along with the participation of Lin Ju-ching and the Algerian Imán Khalifová, who won on Friday in the category up to 66 kg, there were stormy debates about the validity of the start, which crossed the boundaries of sports. Female boxers were disqualified last year at the World Championships organized by the International Boxing Association (IBA) based on unspecified tests. The IBA said at the time that they did not meet the criteria required to participate because they had a “competitive advantage over other participants”.

However, the Olympic competition is organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which expelled the IBA from the Olympic movement last year due to governance and financial disputes. According to Olympic Committee rules, both female boxers are allowed to compete in the Games. IOC President Thomas Bach said several times in Paris that both Lin Ju-ching and Khalífová are women and have the right to be in the women’s competition.
