Actress Daisy Ridley revealed to Women’s Health magazine that she has been diagnosed with Graves’ disease, aka Basedown’s disease. It is an autoimmune disease, which in the worst case can threaten vision, says Duodecim magazine.
Ridley, 32, said that before the diagnosis, she was often tired and had hot flashes. At first, she suspected that she was unwell because she was playing a really stressful role in the film at the time Magpie (2024).
In September 2023, the doctor explained to him that the symptoms indicated an autoimmune disease. The disease causes an overactive thyroid gland. Common symptoms include weight loss, hand tremors, fatigue and palpitations.
Ridley said that after receiving the diagnosis, she became sad and upset. However, it made him change his diet and he stopped eating gluten.
– I’m not very strict about it, but usually reducing gluten makes me feel better, Ridley said.
Focusing on well-being
The British actor said that he has always taken care of his health, but now he focuses on his well-being even more. He has rested more and started going to cryotherapy and an infrared sauna.
– I do quite a lot of comprehensive things, but I also understand that it is a privilege to be able to do these things.
According to NBC, the treatment of the disease includes, for example, radioiodine therapy or thyroid medication.
Ridley is particularly well known Star Wars Reyna, the Jedi Knight of the movies.
