The BC Health Secretary will confirm a vaccine against Covid-19 in October

Citizens of Tijuana, Tecate and Playas de Rosarito can only go to two health centers to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, according to the state Ministry of Health.

One of the two points where the biological enforcement is implemented is the Institute of Security and Social Services of Government Employees and Municipalities of the State of Baja California (Issstecali), located on Las Palmas Avenue.

The state agency assured that citizens without rights can seek the biological product at that health center.

Another place they can go for the vaccine is the Tecate Health Center, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

José Abel Delgado Peraza, head of Health Jurisdiction Number 2, which covers the three municipalities, said that the cases of Covid-19 have increased in the last few weeks in the region.

“We have an increase in mild cases, there are no serious cases or cases that require serious attention due to Covid (…) cases are expected to continue to occur, but so far they are mild cases, we don’t have that. real issues,” explained the state official.

Delgado Peraza pointed out that the virus has not ended and it continues with some mutations, changes that could make Covid-19 more contagious.

“Until then, the latest analysis of the virus has shown that it is highly contagious, but without developing serious symptoms,” he said.

Despite the response of the Secretariat of Health of Baja California, Delgado Peraza mentioned last Thursday that in Health Jurisdiction Number 2 they have not sent vaccines against Covid-19 since the beginning of June because they are out of stock .

In addition, he said that the health authority of this state does not believe that the increase in positive cases is due to the lack of biological use in the last two months.

“Epidemiological monitoring is always carried out where a weekly review is scheduled to see reports of an increase in cases. There has been an increase, fortunately not significant.”

The Ministry of Health assured that Covid-19 is under control in Baja California, and so far this year they have registered 81 positive cases and 16 of them require hospitalization.

In July there were 15 positive cases, said Enrique Campos, deputy director of Health Authority 2, a week ago.

Covid-19 vaccines, sold out in Tijuana pharmacies

The pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced that from December 20, 2023, the vaccine against Covid-19 would be sold in the pharmacies of Del Ahorro, Guadalajara, Benavides and San Pablo, the last one from without branches in the city. Later the vaccine was sold in La Más Barata pharmacies.

In Del Ahorro pharmacies the vaccine against Covid-19 costs 800 pesos, in Benavides pharmacies the price is the same and in La Más Barata the price is one thousand pesos.

Farmacias Guadalajara stated that the biological material would not be sold in Baja California.

El Sol de Tijuana visited a branch of each pharmacy and in all of them they indicated that the biological product has been out of stock in all branches for months.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Health responded that more vaccines will arrive in the state until October and that they will be applied during the winter season vaccination campaign, along with the flu vaccines.

The Secretariat recalled that the vaccine against Covid-19 is a seasonal biological from 2023.

Delgado Peraza pointed out that Covid-19 is a relatively new disease and that the length of the biological defense is still being studied.

“It is thought that immunity could last about 6 months or a year, but it is a study to see how the immunity behaves,” he said.
