No one was injured early Friday morning when a plane carrying the Panthers home skidded off the taxiway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The players and staff members were returning from Thursday night’s preseason loss at New England when their Delta flight encountered problems upon landing at Charlotte Douglas Airport at approximately 2:35 a.m. ET.
An airport spokesman said emergency crews responded after the plane skidded in mud while attempting to taxi toward Wilson Air Center.
“The right main landing gear of Delta 8860 has rolled off the taxiway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport following a normal arrival,” Delta said in a statement. “There were no reported injuries among the 188 passengers who are disembarking and being bused to the terminal. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
Delta towed the plane to safety around 5:30 a.m. and the taxiway reopened about an hour after crews repaired the area.
The Panthers flew in from Providence, RI, at approximately 12:45 a.m. following their 17-3 loss to the Patriots in the preseason opener in Foxborough, Mass.
