The trash purveyors of The Asylum strike again. This time it’s not a hurricane with sharks, but a drug-addled giant reptile that wants to eat people. Watch the trailer for “Methgator” here:
The Asylum, the studio responsible for the hugely successful “Sharknado” series, had actually planned to release “Methgator” on fans of their trash productions parallel to the release of last year’s box office hit “Cocaine Bear.” In the animal horror hit, which hit US screens at the end of February 2023, a drug-induced black bear hunted down harmless hikers.
It is currently unclear why The Asylum’s release date was not kept. In any case, the planned US theatrical release was canceled and the film was released in spring 2024, so far only in some European countries as video-on-demand (Great Britain, Netherlands) or on pay TV (Poland).
In this country, “Methgator” will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on September 27, 2024. Both formats with FSK-16 approval can already be pre-ordered from online retailers such as Amazon:

The production was directed by Christopher Ray, who had previously served us trash grenades such as “Mega Shark Vs. Kolossus”, “Asteroid Vs. Earth” and the Marvel rip-off “Thor – The Almighty”. The best-known name in the otherwise completely novice cast is Patrick Labyorteaux, who played one of the main characters in the “NCIS” precursor series “JAG – In the Service of Honor” for ten seasons.
“Methgator”: This is the story
During a routine raid, police officers in Florida storm a crystal meth kitchen. However, the operation is only a partial success, as the drug dealers manage to escape into the swamps of the Everglades surrounding the house. Shane (Benjamin L. Newmark) is one of them, wading through the water with a bag full of the valuable substance.
Since a cop is on his tail, he has to hurry and doesn’t notice that he’s losing a large bag of them. At that very second, a gigantic alligator swims to the surface as if it had smelled the stuff. In no time at all, the reptile pounces on the drugs, which then causes it to become completely agitated and go into a blood frenzy that neither Shane nor the Deputy Farmer (Stuart Maxheimer) pursuing him can escape.
When Mayor Jensen (Labyorteaux) hears about the incident, he is worried that the tourists, who are so important for the local economy, might not come this coming holiday weekend. So he hires the experienced hunters Twain (Tristen Amason) and Skylar (Arlene Lagos) to hunt down the giant beast…
