Yesterday was not the best evening for Femke Bol: she won bronze in the 400 meter hurdles, which is still incredibly impressive. But of course you don’t train for that long, a top athlete like her wants to win. Bol is disappointed, the whole of the Netherlands is only positive.
What she may not yet realize is that she is an enormous source of inspiration for many.
Femke Bol as a source of inspiration
Femke was disappointed after her third place in the Olympic 400 meter hurdles, but also proud. The 24-year-old from Amersfoort had to let the American favorite Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and his compatriot Anna Cockrell go ahead.
“I don’t get it, this is very annoying,” Bol responded shortly after her race to the NOS. “On the last part, the acidification hit even harder. I have bronze, after a bad race. A few years ago I wouldn’t have been able to say that.”
Viewers of the race find what Femke is doing very special. Especially after her incredibly good performance earlier this week – everyone wants to let her know on the internet that they are proud of her and that she has now also achieved something very special. Sweet, especially after the irrelevant commentary that Femke Bol received earlier.
In the car from the Achterhoek to the parking lot to take the final hurdles of #FemkeBol to watch. I’m not the only one. All around me are cars with glowing phones with athletics images. She may not have won gold now, but she has ignited the love for athletics in many!🏃🏻♀️ pic.twitter.com/hKSWOUxNlz

Fenkie Bo is still a top player! Against a world record of the top favorite, taking bronze is a great achievement! #femkebol #OlympicGames pic.twitter.com/IFsEAY2UjX

Hey #femkebolif you can make a nation look forward to a race. If you can make many people feel that ‘tingle’ in their stomach just before that shot. If you can make everyone live in the moment for a minute. Then you are a great one. ❤️ #Olympics

Would it help Femke Bol to process her disappointment if she knew that the whole of the Netherlands sympathized with her and was also proud of her bronze medal? #FemkeBol
