TUD student Tom Liebscher-Lucz wins Olympic gold in Paris — TU Dresden — TU Dresden

Great cheers and a gold medal for a TUD student at the Olympic Games: Tom Liebscher-Lucz, sports scholarship holder at TU Dresden, made it to the winner’s podium in a very close race in the four-person kayak at the Olympic Games in Paris on August 8, 2024. The next day, on August 9, the Dresden native achieved a strong fifth place in the 500-meter final in the two-person kayak.

“I am very happy for our student Tom Liebscher-Lucz and his teammates, who won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris with an outstanding performance,” said Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger, congratulating the gold winner from TUD on behalf of the Extended Rectorate.

Tom Liebscher-Lucz is studying transport management at TUD. He is one of eight sports scholarship holders that TU Dresden is currently supporting. The Dresden native has been involved in canoe racing since 2003 and has already celebrated great successes before. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo, he won the gold medal in the K4 over 500 meters. In 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, he also secured the gold medal in the K4 team over 1000 meters. He has also won numerous medals at world and European championships.
