Wu Peng’s comment after losing to Veddriq: My body feels heavy

Chinese rock climbing athlete Wu Peng was absolutely in no doubt about losing to Leonardo in the race for the gold medal in the men’s sprint event Paris 2024 Olympic GamesThursday (8/8).

Veddriq Leonardo won the men’s distance gold medal after defeating Wu Peng in the final at the Le Bourget Climbing Venue. In the final, Veddriq recorded a time of 4.75 seconds, while Wu Peng was 4.77 seconds.

Veddriq’s massive loss by just 0.02 seconds left Wu Peng frustrated. Quoted from the International Rock Climbing Federation website (IFSC), Wu Peng admitted that he was not in good shape during the final duel against Veddriq.

“I wasn’t in the best condition today. Usually I feel lighter and I don’t need much effort to climb,” said Wu Peng.

“Today my body felt heavy, but I managed to adjust quickly,” said Wu Peng.

The 21-year-old athlete also admitted he was nervous in the 2024 Olympic gold medal match against Veddriq.

“I was nervous, but I tried to focus on myself. I didn’t think about how other people would do,” said Wu Peng.

“For me, the important thing is to get through the first round, I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself. But I’m very happy that I can reach the final,” continued Wu Peng.

The gold medal won by Veddriq Leonardo in the men’s sprint event was the first for the Indonesian team at the Olympics in Paris in 2024 A few hours later Rizki Juniansyah added Indonesia’s gold medal in the lifting event men’s weight 73kg.
