Paris Summer Olympics organizers said the men’s 10km swimming marathon race will be held on time on Friday in the River Seine, after the river’s waters were deemed fit to host the race without risk any for the athletes.
The organizers of the competition and the International Aquatics Federation confirmed in a statement to Reuters that the water was suitable for holding the race today.
The statement said: “The results of today’s test were considered very good, by the standards of the International Aquatic Federation.”
Due to the level of pollution in the waters of the Seine River, some competitions have been canceled and some training sessions have been cancelled.
Sweden’s Viktor Johansson withdrew from the men’s 10-kilometer race scheduled for Friday, saying some swimmers fell ill after swimming in the river during the unnamed publish any.
The organizers of the competition said that they have implemented effective equipment to monitor the quality of the river water to ensure the safety of athletes.
