The agreement between the United States not only includes Joaquín Guzmán López, but also Ovidio Guzmán, said Rosa Icela Rodríguez, Secretary of Security, during the press conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Thirteen days after what appeared to be the surrender of El Chapito and the arrest of Ismael el Mayo Zambada, the secretary said that she hopes that, on Friday, the U.S. government will provide complete information regarding the case.
The official was asked if the agreement refers to the brothers Ovidio and Joaquín, sons of Chapo Guzmán, founder of the Sinaloa Cartel and who is sentenced to life imprisonment in the United States, to which she replied with a “yes, that’s right.”
As a result, Ovidio Guzmán’s precautionary measure was modified, and he is now summoned, along with his brother, to a Chicago court.
The President stressed that it is still pending to know in what situation El Mayo, co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, arrived, because, as far as is now known, “they had talks with him (Joaquín Guzmán), and suddenly not only Guzmán López arrived, but Mr. Zambada as well.”
He also considered that if this agreement exists, it would be appropriate for the drug lords to make it clear which authorities were protecting them.

“If they are going to report on their ties with Mexican authorities, it helps to know how much support they gave to the authorities. They should report who protected them. All of this will help a lot, as will agreements with US agencies, like this one. Make everything transparent,” he insisted.
López Obrador justified that the handling of information is done with care.
“In this matter we have to be careful until we have official information, because it is a delicate matter. Imagine, we are talking about one of the most famous, traditional and long-standing groups that has been involved in illegal activities; therefore, we do not want a decision that was made in this regard, this agreement or lack of agreement, to generate a major internal conflict for us,” he said.
The secretary reiterated that Mexico is very interested in knowing that federal forces did not intervene in this case.
He also called for the United States to do more than just arrest leaders.
“Mr. Zambada will be arrested, but if this consumption is not addressed and if we do not give young people options so that they are not hooked and used by drug trafficking gangs, then we will not address the problem,” he said.
