It will only benefit the body
Type 2 diabetes is a major global health problem, affecting approximately one in 11 adults on the planet. This type of diabetes accounts for about 90% of all cases of the disease.
A new study has confirmed that lifestyle factors such as excess body weight, insufficient fiber consumption and low physical activity play a key role in the development of this disease. But the opposite situation will benefit the body and reduce the risk of diabetes.
Experts studied about 1,000 men between 50 and 75 with elevated blood glucose levels. More than 600 participants were included in the experimental group, which received advice on lifestyle changes, and the rest formed a control group. Participants in the experimental group received recommendations to improve their diet and increase physical activity.
Men who followed a lifestyle change program significantly improved the quality of their diet. They introduced more dietary fiber into the diet, optimized the amount of fat consumed and increased the proportion of vegetables and fruit. In addition, these participants maintained high levels of physical activity.
As a result, the incidence of type 2 diabetes was significantly lower among those who adhered to recommendations for lifestyle changes, regardless of their level of genetic risk. This proves that a healthy lifestyle can be an effective way to prevent diabetes, even in the presence of genetics.
“The results show how important a healthy lifestyle is for everyone. At the same time, the effectiveness of group and online consultations cannot be denied. This could be useful to optimize the functioning of the health care system as a whole,” concluded the experts.
