Electric car crashed on Nürburgring: “I hope my insurance doesn’t see it

(YouTube/Out of Spec Reviews)A chance encounter at the charging station ended with a lap on the Nürburgring.

The Kia driver actually only wanted to charge his electric car at the charging station near the Nürburgring. By chance, however, he ran into a YouTuber there and ended up on the track himself.

On the YouTube channel “Our of Spec Reviews”, Kyle tests a lot of cars. He also enjoys driving a wide variety of vehicles on the Nürburgring. In one of his Videos he had the opportunity to test a Kia EV6 on the race track. He happened to meet a spectator at a nearby charging station and simply asked him if he could take a lap. The spectator didn’t hesitate and gave him the keys. During the drive, however, doubts arose.

Kia EV6 shows its best side on the racetrack

The owner of the Kia has never been to the Nürburgring with his electric car. The vehicle is the EV6 AWD with 325 hp and an acceleration of 5.2 seconds from zero to 100 km/h. Only the tires have been replaced. Right at the beginning, the owner explains that they are not designed for performance, but for efficiency. However, this is hardly noticeable on the track. The Kia reaches its top speed of 194 km/h several times and even overtakes a Porsche.

Overall, Kyle is positively surprised by the electric car. The balance was “amazing” and the brakes felt “fantastic”. With a different set of tires, the Kia EV6 would be the perfect all-rounder in Kyle’s eyes. After the lap on the race track, however, they were quite hot and the YouTuber had to do a short cool-down run.

Halfway through the track, the owner briefly had doubts about whether it was a good idea to drive the Kia EV6 onto the race track. “I hope my insurance company doesn’t see it,” he explains. Kyle jokes: “You’d better not show your wife the video.” The insurance company probably doesn’t care about the short trip to the Nürburgring, though. Normal car insurance doesn’t usually pay out for damage on a race track anyway. A special policy is required for that. However, it may be that the use of the car contradicts the leasing conditions. In the worst case, the owner would then have to expect problems with the residual value and the guarantee.
