The forward from Santa Fe Alejo Veliz will play this season in the Spanish from Barcelona, loaned by English side Tottenham Hotspur, after an agreement signed by both entities, the Catalan club reported on Wednesday. And the way to present the goalscorer was with A hilarious video with a doctor from the center where the footballers go for check-ups, as in this case, or any other eventuality.
Veliz, from 20 years old and born in Rosario Central, He played eight games for the Premier League team and, in the winter transfer market, had been loaned to Seville, where he played six games. His minutes in the 2023/24 season were scarce, but the Espanyol sports management opted for his incorporation to reinforce the attack after the departure of the Dane Martin Braithwaitetop scorer in the second division with 22 goals.
The boy born in Godoken, a small town just under 200 km from Rosario, attracted attention for his potential in the aerial game thanks to his height (1.86m) and his past at the Canalla club, where he scored 19 goals in 63 games, and his international experience, with participation in the U-20 team in the South American and World Cup of the category last year.
Although he will be formally presented next week at the RCDE Stadium, the club appealed to a surprising video on social media to inform his fans of the reinforcement hours before the team faced a pre-season friendly against Sabadell in which the Argentine was not called up.
In a comedy routine that resembles an ophthalmologist’s office, the doctor at the clinic hands a “patient” a pair of glasses and tells him to say which letters he is pointing at. There, without even seeing who he is, it begins to be discovered that he is a player from the club. And the question is resolved when he asks him to spell the letters in the fifth row: V E L I Z.
He answers quickly and the doctor tells him to repeat it. He does it again quickly. “You are nervous and you are making me nervous. Pay close attention.” the oculist tells him. And Alejo gives the answer again. Then comes the discovery. “Yes, we have a forward,” The doctor says, while the footballer removes his glasses from his face and smiles at the camera, with a thumbs up.
On that plane that is expanded, even, it comes to be seen a detail that did not go unnoticed by the Canallas fans: The player who will wear the number 36 wears Rosario Central bracelets on both wrists. Three years after his debut in the first division with the Rosario team, his past is still alive even at the start of a new European challenge.
“I am very happy with this opportunity and I want to make the most of it. The stadium is very nice, the colours, and it’s the first time I’ve been here. I’m very happy and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone,” he said in another video, recorded for Espanyol fans.
