Last week the government announced its decision Kyriakou Mitsotakis that the new Greek Commissioner to the Commission be the regional governor of Central Macedonia, Apostolos Tzizikostas. It was a choice that, beyond the messages to the right wing of the blue faction, indicates a wider concern about the small appeal of the ruling party and the large percentages that the right-wing parties got in the European elections.
In particular, in the right-wing parties of the New Democracy, there have started to be ferments for the possibility of cooperating with each other, in order to multiply their forces. In fact, a point of reference in far-right circles is the region of Northern Greece, where the appeal of ultra-conservative parties is greater, compared to the national average. In this context, the prime minister decided to make use of Apostolos Tzitzikostas, who has been elected in recent years as the regional governor of Central Macedonia, with rates of over 60%.
It is no coincidence that in the pre-election period of the European elections, Kyriakos Mitsotakis had chosen central executives to go “run” for the blue party, in the region of Northern Greece. For example, Nikos Dendias was in charge of organizing Central Macedonia, while Adonis Georgiadis was in charge of Western Macedonia.
The Samaras factor
In this equation of the reconstitution of the right-wing parties, many people also put Antonis Samaras in the frame of the discussion, who in every position, mentions the necessity for the New Democracy to turn to the right.
