India: Komnas HAM condemns OPM New Zealand pilot killed, urges law enforcement against perpetrator: National Okezone

Jakarta – The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) condemned the attack that killed New Zealand pilot Glen Malcolm Conning by a Free Papua Group (OPM) group on the runway at Alama Airport, Alama District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua.

“Komnas HAM condemns the attack on the helicopter pilot and passengers and attacks on other civilians that harm efforts to achieve peace in Papua,” said the Chairman of Komnas HAM, Atnike Nova Sigiro, in Jakarta, Wednesday (7/8/2024).

Komnas HAM expressed deep condolences for Glenn’s death. Atnike also asked the authorities to enforce the law against the perpetrators of the attack, OPM or the Armed Separatist Group (KSB).

“Komnas HAM urges law enforcement against KSB perpetrators of attacks that caused injuries and loss of life. The right to life, the right to be free from fear and the right to humane treatment are human rights that must be guaranteed and protected. which is the responsibility of the state,” he said.

Komnas HAM also asked the government to take protective measures. This also provides healing for victims and families as a result of the violence.

“Komnas HAM also calls on the government and the security forces to ensure the safety of civilians in Papua,” Atnike concluded.

As is known, the OPM attack that killed PT Intan Angkasa Air Service pilot Glen Malcolm Conning took place on the runway at Alama Airport, Mimika, on Monday August 5, 2024.

The person who committed the crime also shot the helicopter that flew to Glencolm. There were six passengers on board the helicopter, including children, all of whom survived.
