The Hamburg UKE wants to part ways with a controversial chief physician. The man had been accused of professional errors and his treatment of subordinates. He was exonerated of the professional allegations through internal and external audits, the UKE announced in writing.
The UKE remains vague in its justification. There are different ideas about how the clinic, which the chief physician had headed, should be developed further. Therefore, talks are now being held about an amicable separation. The chief physician remains released from his duties. In its written statement, however, the UKE does not say a word about the accusations made against the chief physician as a manager – he is said to have made several sexist comments.
Lawyer: Client was exonerated
The chief physician’s lawyer is keen to point out that his client has been completely exonerated. In any case, the matter is so serious that Science Senator Katharina Fegebank (Greens) interrupted her vacation to find out about the UKE’s decision.
CDU wants to follow up on further clues
However, the matter is unlikely to be over with the release of the chief physician. Anke Frieling, the CDU’s science policy expert, told NDR 90.3: She has received further indications of a poor management culture at the UKE – she will follow up on these indications.
