Sandra Ibarra (Medina del Campo, Valladolid, 1974) visits ‘Pasapalabra’ this week as a guest. A former model and publicist, she has been a leader in Spain in the fight against cancer for more than 25 years.
At the age of 20, she received the news that would change her life forever. A doctor told her that 98% of her bone marrow had been damaged due to a very aggressive leukemia. Ibarra abandoned her recently started career as a model and communicator. Her career in life was just beginning.
She overcame the disease thanks to a bone marrow transplant from her younger brother and was able to return to her work as a model and student of Information Sciences.
From the very beginning of her illness, Sandra Ibarra was an example of overcoming and making cancer visible. Images of her wearing a headscarf during the treatments she underwent were frequent.
In 2022, at the age of 28, she suffered a relapse that forced her to begin a new battle for her life. Once again, and thanks to another transplant, she was able to overcome the disease.

In 2008, she created the ‘Sandra Ibarra Foundation for Solidarity against Cancer’, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting research into the disease, its prevention and social awareness.
She has been in a relationship with journalist Juan Ramón Lucas (Madrid, 1958) since 2004. ‘Forbes’ magazine included Sandra Ibarra in the list of the most influential women in Spain in 2022.
