Kate Winslet (48) wants people to see her in movies as she really is. For that reason, she refused to cover her ‘swimbelts’ after a member of the team advised her to do so while filming her latest movie, ‘Lee’.
“Someone from the team came up to me and said, ‘Maybe you should sit up straighter.’
Kate talks about the event in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “There’s a scene where I’m sitting on a bench in a bikini. Someone from the cast came up to me and said, ‘Maybe you should sit up straighter.'”
Kate then replied: “So you can’t see my floaters? Not for the rest of your life. I did it on purpose, you know?” The actress doesn’t mind being ‘not perfect’ on screen. “Just the opposite. I’m proud of it because it shows my life. It wouldn’t happen to me to hide that.”
Kate also looks back on filming a sex scene for the film Mare of Eastown. The actress said that sometimes she didn’t look real in that movie glamorous out, but she doesn’t care. So she turned down director Craig Zobell’s offer to touch her stomach. “If you ask…” Kate told him. She also said she returned the movie poster twice because she thought it was too edited. “I know how many lines I have around my eyes,” she says. “I want to see that again.”
Kate feels a certain ‘relief’ that she believes that women today accept themselves more and refuse to be judged based on their appearance. “It used to be different. My mum was always asking if she could carry things, if she looked too fat.”
