An aerial bomb from the Second World War was found during construction work in Cologne-Lindenthal on Tuesday evening. It is located in the area of Bachemer Strasse. The British 500 kg bomb is to be defused on Wednesday, the city announced.
Hospital affected
According to WDR information, around 4,000 people are affected by the evacuation. The whole thing is taking place within a radius of 400 meters around the bomb discovery. This means that the St. Elisabeth Hospital Hohenlind will also be affected by the evacuations. From 9 a.m., the city plans to close the first streets and begin ringing the first bells.
Search for contact point is underway
It is currently still difficult to find a contact point for residents. The city is looking for a school because it would have house rules and enough space there. However, school caretakers also use the holidays to go on vacation. That is why they are still looking.
The ordnance disposal service of the Düsseldorf district government (KBD) and the public order office of the city of Cologne are on site.
More information coming soon.
