Even though it wasn’t the best collection, the volunteers of the Don de sang association are satisfied. “On Monday, August 5, 2024, in Locmiquélic, we received 60 donors, including four new ones,” says Françoise Bogé, the local president. “Almost all of them are from Locmiquélic, Port-Louis or Riantec. Unlike the summer collections of previous years, we received very few vacationers,” she notes.
“The needs are enormous”
Géraldine, a Port-Louis resident and operating room nurse, regularly donates blood and plasma. “The needs are enormous,” she says. “Think about the fact that it often happens that a patient’s blood is completely replaced, which is about 5 liters.” For Emmanuel, a young retiree from Locmiquélic, “donation is simply a civic act.” Nolwen, from Riantec, doesn’t ask any questions and donates three times a year. “You have to donate to save lives,” she says. Her daughter Manon, a student in Lorient, donated blood for the first time at university. “Some friends made a big deal out of donating blood. A friend and I didn’t hesitate. Now, I also donate every three months.”
