Meloni in China with her daughter: “We will go on holiday with Giambruno”

The relationship with the ex-partner Andrea Giambruno “the best father I could wish for my daughter Geneva”, her life as a mother-prime minister (she has already spoken about it several times: she complains about alleged attacks from the left), and the holiday all three of them together this summer. Georgia Meloni opens up about her year as a single mother in an interview with Chi. She attacks the “ferocious” opposition on reforms, the premiership, justice, differentiated autonomy and taxation “against which the forces that want to preserve the status quo, or rather their privileges, are fielding a ferocious opposition”. And she defends the choice to have brought her daughter with her on her trip to China in response to alleged controversies against her: “I don’t understand the reason, frankly. Between travel and commitments I was away for almost a week, according to those who criticize all this, I should have left my daughter at home, maybe at a friend’s house”.

Finally, a reassurance on his relations with Marina and Pier Silvio Berlusconiafter their criticisms of some positions of the right-wing government: “I have relationships with both of them, I respect both of them, and I don’t consider them hostile people,” he assures.

She lets it be known that she will be taking a vacation with her ex, as written by Republic. “When Andrea and I separated, it wasn’t easy for Ginevra either. She’s very close to both of us. She pretended nothing was wrong with us for a long time, but I know she cried when we weren’t seeing her. It made my heart skip a beat. Fortunately, Andrea, who remains the best father I could have wished for my daughter, and I have maintained a good relationship. When we can, we spend time together with Ginevra. I think it’s important to make children understand that a separation doesn’t necessarily have to trigger a conflict between parents and that children shouldn’t be forced to choose between mom and dad. It’s not always easy, I realize, but when it’s possible, it’s useful to do so.”

Again. “The most frequent question Ginevra asks me is: ‘Mom, why did you choose this job?’. I think she understands in broad terms that what I do is important, but not enough to consider it right that that job takes away my time with her. When she came back from China she wrote me a note in which she told me that every time she blows out her candles she expresses the desire to spend more time with me. It made me feel very guilty. Usually people say that it’s not a question of the quantity of time you spend with your children, but of the quality. I think that’s true in the abstract, but not in the concrete. Children rightly want you to be there when something happens that excites them, because happiness needs to be shared.”

“With children,” she continues, “you never know if you’re making the right choice. Being a parent is a job that no one feels prepared for, even if deep down we all are. We ask ourselves questions, we feel eternally guilty, and children, in their naivety, are able to tell you with simplicity the phrase that makes you happy like nothing else in the world and the one that destroys you. Ginevra is like that too.”

With Giambruno, left via social media after ending up in some embarrassing audio broadcast by Striscia la Notizianow says: “The three of us will also take a few days of vacation together with a group of friends and their children. For Ginevra. We are still friends and we love each other. We both see how happy our daughter is when she doesn’t have to divide herself between one and the other, and even if our separation is definitive, we will always spend happy time together, as many other families with separated parents do”, he concludes.

According to Meloni, women’s rights “should not be defended with battles like being called ‘la Presidenta’. Because if they call you presidenta, or assessora, but you are excluded from the world of work because you have children, I fear that equality is still a long way off. The real challenge is to build a world in which women are not discriminated against because they are mothers, or potential mothers. That’s why we focused many of the few resources we had on working mothers.” And she talks about her role as a working mother and the decision to often take her daughter on missions abroad with her: “It makes me smile that some people think they are so morally superior that they can teach a mother how to raise her own daughter. I, on the other hand, think that every mother knows what is best for her offspring and should choose freely. But there’s more, it’s also a cultural challenge that concerns all women: I think that if I, who am the Prime Minister, can demonstrate that my role is compatible with motherhood, then there will be no more excuses for those who use motherhood as a pretext for not advancing women in the workplace,” says Meloni. “On paper, doing an important job and demonstrating that you can also raise children shouldn’t be a revolution, but in this society that often uses children to prevent you from reaching your goals, it probably is. As for China, Ginevra liked it a lot. In her class there is a Chinese girl to whom she is very close, who was in China for the holidays. So she was really happy to see Chloe on the other side of the world,” she adds.

No controversy then with the Berlusconi family. “For weeks we have been trying to tell of a substantial intolerance of Marina and Piersilvio Berlusconi towards the government, but that is not the reality I live. I have relationships with both of them, I respect both of them, and I do not consider them hostile people. I have relationships with both of them, I respect both of them, and I do not consider them hostile people. That is what the left would like, one of its many hopes that will not come true. The goal of the opposition that flatters them today is to use them against us, and then possibly use someone else against them. We have already seen it happen. But we, like Marina and Piersilvio Berlusconi, know these methods well, because they are the ones used against Silvio too. The left can continue to bask in its hopes, if it helps them feel better in these difficult times, so be it”.
