Fernando Ortiz, the coach of the Rayados de Monterrey, is experiencing hours of uncertainty.
His controversial statements before the match against Inter Miami, which led to his confrontation with Lionel Messi in the locker room of the Florida club, were left in the archives of Fernando Ortiz’s work at the helm of the Rayados de Monterrey.
The Argentine coach created a great controversy when he claimed that the referees could favor Inter Miami due to the presence of Messi. These statements, added to the verbal exchange with the Argentine star in the locker room, further strained the relationship between both teams in what was the Quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup last April.
Although Monterrey managed to eliminate Inter Miami from the Concacaf Champions League, the subsequent poor results, such as the elimination in the semifinals of said competition and in the Liga MX, have highlighted the team’s shortcomings and have generated doubts about Ortiz’s sporting project.
Everything got bigger with the recent defeat against Pumas UNAM in the Leagues Cup. Therefore, the Rayados management is evaluating the situation and does not rule out making changes on the bench.
Likewise, José Antonio Noriega, the club’s sports president, acknowledged that Ortiz’s future is up in the air and that all options are being analyzed.
