Placement Regional Governor of Peloponnese
The Regional Governor of Peloponnese, Dimitris Ptochos, accompanied by the Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism, Athanasios Michelongonas, emphasized the need to align spatial planning plans, such as Local and Special Town Planning Plans and Special Environmental Studies, with the new national plan for tourism. He also stated that the Peloponnese Region has proceeded with the necessary administrative actions for the organization of the relevant DMMO, underlining the need for progress in the formulation of integrated Destination Management Plans.
Collaboration and Interaction
Mr. Ptochos pointed out the importance of the interaction of the new Regional Observatories with research bodies, such as the Bank of Greece and the Hellenic Statistical Authority, as well as with the National Observatory, to strengthen the tourism strategy.

The Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, said: “In the context of implementing our strategy for sustainable tourism development and ensuring the viability of Greek destinations, our strategic choice is the participation of local communities in the management of tourism activity in our country.” He also presented the legislative initiatives, financial tools and interventions aimed at protecting, resiliency and highlighting the potential of tourist destinations.

Also participating were the Presidents of the Union of Regions of Greece (EN.PE) and Regional Governors of Central Macedonia, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, and Ionian Islands, Ioannis Trepeklis, as well as the Regional Governors of Aegean Prefecture, Giorgos Hatzimarkos, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Christodoulos Topsidis, Peloponnese, Dimitris Ptochos, and other representatives from various regions of Greece.
The meeting highlighted the importance of cooperation between regions and central agencies to promote a sustainable and resilient tourism development in the country.
