An open address to today’s leaders of the leading countries in the Anti-Hitler/Anti-Fascist/ Coalition during the Second World War
During the Second World War, your countries united a significant part of the international peace-loving forces against the aggression of the so-called states. A tripartite pact seeking to establish a repressive new world order. The victory of the Anti-Fascist Coalition in this most terrible war in the history of mankind was a victory for peace, justice and Human Reason.
Unfortunately, on March 1, 1941, tsarist Bulgaria joined the Tripartite Pact with the signature of the then Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Prof. Bogdan Filov. This act puts an end to the policy of neutrality of the Kingdom of Bulgaria. It became an ally of Hitler’s Germany and Mussolini’s Italy in the Balkans and in Europe. Filov’s government tries to please its masters in every way. A month after signing the accession to the Tripartite Pact, Hitlerite units were allowed to pass through Bulgaria and attack in the rear and occupy Greece, which until then was fighting successfully against the Italian fascist forces. And further, the Bulgarian fascists waged a persistent struggle against the anti-fascists from Yugoslavia, Greece and Bulgaria.
This pro-Hitler policy of the Kingdom of Bulgaria became a “case white”, i.e. the reason for the war that the USSR declared on our country on September 5, 1944, and which led to a decisive change in the political situation. The new Patriotic Front government that came to power after 09.09.1944 joined our country to the Anti-Fascist Coalition. The Bulgarian army fought bravely against the Hitlerites and as part of the Third Ukrainian Front even reached Vienna.
In modern Bulgaria, however, attempts are being made for a fascist revenge. A concrete expression of such attempts is the decision to dismantle the Monument to the Soviet/Red/Army in Sofia. This action is not only a negation of the feat of the Russian soldier in his Liberation March in Europe. This action humiliates the efforts of the Americans and the British in their struggle against the Hitlerite hydra. But it also rejects the Bulgarian contribution to the defeat of fascism under Stracin and Strazin, under Drava Sobolch, Drava Chekhi and Drava Polkonya. Battles that washed the face of Bulgaria because of the shameful alliance with Hitler.
Dear Sirs! We know that you honor the anti-fascist struggle of your peoples and have sworn that there will never be another Hitler on Earth. Therefore, we appeal to you with all your authority not to allow fascist forces in Bulgaria, using their power resources, to mess with the anti-fascist monuments.
The memory of heroism in the fight against fascism is sacred and we must firmly cover and protect it!!!
