Kreiš takes 12th place in the pole vault final; Duplantis wins gold with a new world record

Duplantis won with a new world record. At first he jumped 6.10 meters and broke the Olympic record, but with the third run he also exceeded 6.25 meters. The Swede improved the world record achieved in April this year by one centimeter.

The American Sam Kendricks stopped at the mark of 5.95 meters, but the Greek Emanuils Karalis won the bronze with 5.90 meters.

20-year-old Kreis, the youngest participant in the competition, cleared the starting height of 5.40 meters on his first attempt at qualification on Saturday, then he also jumped 5.60 and 5.70 meters on his first run. None of the three attempts at a height of 5.75 meters were successful, and to reach the final, they had to hope to get into the top twelve. The Latvian shared 11th place with the Australian Curtis Marshall and were the last two to get a place in the final.
