Luana Alonso, known for her achievements in swimming and her presence on social media, has caused a stir after her expulsion from the Olympic Village in Paris.
The decision came after the athlete decided to explore the city, including a visit to Disneyland, after announcing her retirement from competition.

Luana Alonso, a 20-year-old Paraguayan swimmer, has been the center of a recent controversy at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The athlete, who competed in the 100-meter butterfly, was asked to leave the Olympic Village by the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP) due to her behavior considered inappropriate.
Alonso, after being eliminated in her race with a time of 1:03.09, decided to tour Paris and visit Disneyland, an action that was seen as a distraction for the team and a lack of respect for the delegation’s rules.
From an early age, Alonso showed a keen interest in swimming, starting to compete at the age of six thanks to the motivation of his grandfather. His international debut was at the 2021 South American Swimming Championship in Argentina, where he participated in several events, standing out in the 50 and 100-meter butterfly.
She was also part of the 4×100 mixed relay team, finishing fourth. Her talent and dedication led her to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and more recently in Paris 2024.
In addition to her sports career, Luana Alonso is a Political Science student at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Having decided to retire from competitive swimming, she plans to continue her studies in the United States, with the dream of one day becoming Paraguay’s Minister of Sports to support other athletes.

The controversy arose when Alonso, after announcing her retirement, decided to temporarily leave the Olympic Village to enjoy the tourist attractions of Paris. Upon her return, she was informed by COP Head of Mission Larissa Schaerer that she had to leave the venue, as her presence was not suitable for the disciplined atmosphere that was desired to be maintained within the Paraguayan delegation.
This fact sparked a debate on social media, dividing opinions between those who support the COP’s decision and those who defend Alonso’s right to enjoy his free time.
