WhatsApp is planning a new emoji function, as the fan blog “Wabetainfo” reports. This should enable faster reactions to messages – but there is a catch.
Responding to messages with a thumbs up or other emojis has been possible on WhatsApp for some time now. If you hold down a message in the chat for a while, you can select the emojis and respond accordingly. This should be even faster in the future.
WhatsApp is currently developing a function that allows you to respond to messages more quickly with a double tap. This is reported by the fan blog “Wabetainfo”.
Heart emoji by double tap: WhatsApp will introduce new feature
By double-tapping a message, users can instantly respond to messages with a standard heart emoji, saving time by not having to open the reaction box, it says. Users only need to open the reaction bar if they want to respond with an emoji other than the standard heart emoji, Wabetainfo further explains.
WhatsApp is not currently planning to deactivate this function. This could cause inconvenience for some users who accidentally respond to old messages when scrolling through their chat history. The feature will initially be available in Android beta version 2.24.16.7. The double-tap function will be introduced in a future update, but it is not yet clear when this will happen.
Why did WhatsApp choose the red heart as a predefined reaction? The web portal speculates “Networld”: On the one hand, the red heart is one of the most used emojis in Messenger, and on the other hand, Instagram already offers the same function in its in-app chat. Like WhatsApp, Instagram is developed by the Meta Group. There is more WhatsApp news: Scammers are currently trying their luck with WhatsApp users with short and simple messages.
