How can you be so stupid?
A week before the start of the league, Hannover 96 brought the grass destroyers to their own field. The football professionals from the Hamburg Sea Devils played against Frankfurt in the EFL, after which the new turf took off. The coach Stefan Leitl (46) was angry, the sports director Marcus Mann (40) was angry.
Now it is clear: it could have been much worse. According to BILD information, the opening game of 96 against Regensburg was even “imminent”.
It was in danger of being cancelled!
Due to the many football lines and the colored logos in the penalty areas, the football markings were no longer clearly visible. There were even fears of problems with the VAR lines and goal line technology. But that was not confirmed.
And yet: the referee Michael Bacher (33, Wasserburg) was afraid and personally checked the lawn on Friday afternoon, the day before the game. This is completely unusual, only then did Bacher give the OK for the start of the second division.
And how does it continue?
The Sea Devils’ next football game in the 96 Arena is scheduled to take place on August 18, just five days before the home game against HSV. “No more color,” sports director Mann had already ordered. Will the Devils keep up? After all, you have a valid rental agreement with 96.

Hannover would prefer to get out of this. Or at least ban the football players’ substitute benches from the lawn. They were standing in the middle of the square, the lawn in front was completely destroyed. The Devils professionals didn’t pay much attention to the grass either and dumped their buckets of ice water on the field after the game. Damaged, the yellow spots are clearly visible.
96 commercial director Markus Kalusche signed the deal with the Football Devils in January. He doesn’t feel much of the whole problem. Kalusche went on vacation before the football game and won’t be back until next Monday.
