Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced on Friday that he has agreed to debate his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, on Fox News on September 4.
“I have arranged with Fox News to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4th,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social social network, although it was not immediately clear whether Harris had accepted the invitation.
The former president’s message was published hours after the vice president secured the necessary votes to be designated as the Democratic Party’s candidate in the November presidential elections.
Trump’s White House bid was upended last month when President Joe Biden, 81, amid growing concerns about his health, dropped his re-election bid and endorsed Harris.
His decision to withdraw came after his June debate against Trump on CNN, which was disastrous for Biden.
A second Trump-Biden debate was scheduled for September 10 on ABC.
That debate was initially expected to go ahead, with Harris replacing Biden, but a Trump spokesman said last week that it would be “inappropriate” to schedule it before the vice president was formally the Democratic nominee.
