A new care chair for ostomy patients at the Honoré-Mercier Hospital

Thanks to the Richelieu-Yamaska Ostomy Association (ASRY), a new care chair dedicated to consultations and changing digestive bags for ostomy patients has just been installed at the Honoré-Mercier Hospital in Saint-Hyacinthe.

“This new chair is designed to support ostomy patients in the hospital. Instead of having them on a stretcher, we felt it was necessary to purchase this chair so that stoma therapists could change ostomy patients’ pouches with ease. The ideal position for a person with an ostomy is to be seated. It’s much more comfortable for both of us,” said Jacques Beaudreault, President of ASRY.

Lyne Quevillon, an enterostomal therapy nurse at the Pierre-Boucher Hospital in Longueuil, is the instigator of this project. “She was replacing an enterostomal therapist at the Honoré-Mercier Hospital who was on maternity leave. She was the one who put the idea in my head to make this project a reality today,” explained Mr. Beaudreault.

The purchase of this chair cost $4,300. This is a designated donation that was made for a specific purchase. “It is a donation that we made to the Honoré-Mercier Foundation, which subsequently purchased the chair and installed it,” indicated the president of ASRY.
