Cecilia Tamayo advances to the 200-meter repechage in Paris 2024 | National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport | Government

The national athletics team member, Cecilia Tamayo-Garza, achieved a time of 23.65 seconds that placed her in seventh position in the second qualifying heat of the 200-meter flat, thus qualifying for the repechage within the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

She competed in a group that included American Gabrielle Thomas, double medalist in Tokyo 2020 and world champion in 2023, who led the heat with 22.20 seconds, the best time of the entire first phase.

Cecilia Tamayo will have one last chance to qualify for the next round when she returns to the court on Monday at 4:50 a.m. (Central Mexico Time) to compete in the play-offs, while the semifinals will be held on the same day at 12:45 p.m. (TCM).

The Guanajuato native has already made history in the national Olympic movement, as the country has not had representation in the women’s 200-meter dash since Mexico 1968, so she will try to continue achieving feats in the “City of Light.”
