A difficult season is likely to await Viktoria Köln. Due to cost-cutting measures, six of last season’s regular players left the cathedral city. At the start of the season, coach Olaf Janßen fielded newcomers Dudu, Lofolmo, Vrenezi and Lobinger from the start.
But Dynamo also had a big change in the summer. For the league debut of Dresden’s new coach Thomas Stamm, the new signings Schreiber, Casar, Heise and Daferner were in the starting eleven.
The many changes were noticeable in the game from the start – even though Daferner had the first shot early on (5th minute). Many changes of possession, uncertainties and inaccuracies were at the top of the agenda. As expected, the guests from Dresden had more possession and the better game plan, but in the last third at the latest it was all over for Thomas Stamm’s men.
Daynamo comes up – but Viktoria loses the lead
So it was Viktoria who improved in the middle of the first half and at least made some initial approaches, but El Mala’s cross slipped (30th) and Vrenezi was blocked (32nd).
Dresden continued to lack precision in the danger zone, and Kammerknecht’s best opportunity was thwarted by keeper Dudu (38′).
Dresden in luck – and then with the lead
On the other hand, the team from the Florence of the Elbe were lucky not to fall behind shortly before half-time. First, Vrenezi put the ball into the side netting in a one-on-one with Schreiber (45th minute), thanks in part to a good reaction from the goalkeeper. Then Menzel cleared Greger’s header from the ensuing corner off the line (45th minute +1).
The second half finally started with a cold shower for the home team. Lofolomo played a catastrophic bad pass to Hauptmann, which could only be stopped by goalkeeper Dudu with a foul: after less than 60 seconds, Thomas Stamm’s team was awarded a penalty. Daferner took responsibility and was lucky that the offender jumped over the ball (47′).
As a result, the cathedral city team was not impressed by the deficit, but they lacked offensive opportunities. Lobinger was unable to take advantage of a problem in Schreiber’s decision-making and was stopped by the goalkeeper (59th minute). A little later, Dresden’s Batista Meier suffered a similar fate, being stopped by a strong Dudu save (65th minute).
Güler counters Kutschke – Lobinger fails against Schreiber
As the game progressed, Viktoria became bolder, but also opened up spaces for the guests, which were exploited ice cold: Kutschke was thwarted by a strong save by Dudu (77th), but not even the keeper could save his good debut, this time the experienced striker beat the goalkeeper (78th).
Preliminary decision? Not at all! Just four minutes later, Güler made Sportpark Hohenberg resound with his header (82′). However, this was not to be the start of a furious comeback, Dresden cleverly took time off the clock and defended consistently. Only Lobinger failed in the first minute of injury time against a strong save by Schreiber.
After the 1:2 defeat in the opening match against Dynamo Dresden, Viktoria will be visiting Waldhof Mannheim on the next match day (10 August, 2 p.m.). Dresden, on the other hand, with the victory under their belt, will host newly promoted Energie Cottbus in the Eastern duel (9 August, 7 p.m.).
