Maduro cannot be recognized as the winner of the Venezuelan presidential election

The results of the July 28 election published by the National Electoral Council of Venezuela on August 2, which says that Maduro won 52% of the vote and the opposition candidate Edmundo González – 43% of the vote, “are unacceptable. will not raise delay in the full publication of the official voting records but further doubts,” said the statement from the Council of the EU.

He says that “copies of the election records published by the opposition and evaluated by several independent organizations show that Edmundo González Urrutia, with a large majority of the votes, is expected , the winner of the presidential election.

“Therefore, the EU calls for continuous independent verification of election protocols, if possible by an internationally recognized body,” the statement said.

The EU also calls on the “Venezuelan authorities to stop arbitrary arrests, repression and violent rhetoric against members of the opposition and civil society and to release all political prisoners”.

However, unlike countries such as the United States, Argentina, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Panama and Uruguay, the EU has not recognized González as the winner of the election.

Protests broke out in Venezuela after the National Electoral Council declared Maduro’s victory, with at least 20 protesters killed in clashes with security forces. Hundreds of protestors were detained.
