A jazz festival will be held in Miltini, Dobeles district

At the end of the Latvian jazz festival season this summer, on August 31, the first festival “Cert is Jazz” will be held in the old cultural center “Zelta Druva” in Miltinių, Bērze parish, Dobele district. There will be two parts: a fair of Baltic homemakers and jazz masterclasses, which will continue with an evening jazz concert and a dance program in the great hall of the historic cultural house.

“Sustainability means transforming old things into new and functional ones. “Dvoretsky distillery” bought the cult house “Zelta Druva” to turn it into a new level factory for high quality Latvian product. We thought – before we start the rebuilding work, it’s time to celebrate,” said the organizer of the festival, entrepreneur Ivans Dvoreckis.

As the festival takes place on the grounds and buildings of the former House of Culture, this year’s unifying theme is “Time Machine”. That is, in the 1980s, during the active activity of the cultural house “Zelta Druva”, people especially had to use their imagination to make and present new things and products,” but jazz continued to worldwide sound in the 1980s – groove, “smooth jazz”, funk and “fusion” influenced the hearts and dance floors of the audience,” the organizers of the event say. Therefore, visitors are invited to come to the festival in 80’s costumes.

In the musical part of the festival, which starts at 18.00, the jazz ensemble of the students of the Riga Dome Choir School “Harmonijas Chameleoni”, the avant-garde jazz group “Avangarda Vangards”, the jazz trio Ralf Arbidāns will be on the stage of the cultural center that was there before. After a series of listening performances led by music journalist Anete Ashmane-Wilson, visitors will have the opportunity to dance to the rhythms of jazz, funk, disco and groove from vinyl records provided by DJ VinK and Mixmaster AG.
