The homecoming did not go well for him. Straka, who hailed from České Budějovice, showed himself to the home crowd in his first game in office, but the hopes of the new bench soon faded. In the tenth minute, Dynamo stopper Nicolas Keckeisen opened the scoring, but he hit his own goal with a good catch. In the next thirteen minutes, Pardubice added two more goals thanks to Jan Kalabiška and Vojtěch Patrák.
České Budějovice showed nothing at all in the first act. They were literally towels. “We had a lot of problems. Football is about personal battles, we were losing them. We didn’t get a chance on the opponent. I don’t understand that we will have completely free players in the top 16. Children’s mistakes cost us points,” Straka believes.
“I don’t want to offend anyone, but the first half was at the level of the regional championship,” said Jan Rajnoch, the author of a regular commentary on Sport.cz, in the O2 TV studio.
The remaining 45 minutes presented a completely different picture. The South Bohemians switched to a three-back system. The opposition did not allow a single shot at goal. They asked for a penalty kick several times, but they were not lucky. Although the situation in which the ball hit the hand of Emil Tischler from Pardubice looked like the end.
Of the chances they created, only Vincent Trummer succeeded. Then the shots failed, or the goalkeeper Viktor Budinský was damaged. At times, Budějovice hurt themselves, for example when winger Jakob Tranziska blocked Jan Suchan’s close-range finish on the goal line. “We were completely dominant. But it probably had to end this way,” Straka said.
Dynamo is still pointless. But the improvement in the second half means a guarantee for the next few weeks. “The players showed they have balls. This is the direction we want to go. We have to bounce back from where we left off,” says an experienced coach who pays for a rescue specialist. Last season, he lived up to his reputation and kept Michalovce sensationally among Slovakia’s elite. The next challenge did not get off to a good start for him.
