Hamburg – Loud, weird and colorful – a city shows its colors!
Under the motto “5 to 12! You & I against right-wing pressure”, hundreds of thousands of people met on Saturday and celebrated Christopher Street Day with a kilometer-long party in the spirit of tolerance, love and respect.

The demonstration started symbolically at five minutes to 12 noon at the Outer Alster and moved through the St. Georg district.
Mayor at the forefront
At the front, under a huge rainbow of balloons, walked Hamburg’s First Mayor Peter Tschentscher (58, SPD), next to his deputy Katharina Fegebank (47, Green Party).

130 groups, including 59 trucks, marched through Lange Reihe in Hamburg, from there past the main train station, along Mönckebergstrasse to Rathausmarkt. The city, which had been decorated with rainbow flags for days on the occasion of Pride Week, showed its best side: lots of sunshine and only happy faces.

Christopher Street Day has a long tradition and is now celebrated worldwide. The movement originated in New York, where a police raid on the Stonewall Inn bar in June 1969 led to an uprising by gays and lesbians.
