‘Checo’ Perez will remain at Red Bull

Red Bull will respect Sergio Perez’s place in Formula One.

After speculations that cast doubt on the Mexican’s continuity, due to his poor performance in the last two months, his days seemed numbered. However, the team will not make any moves for the second half of the season.

According to Telegraaf, Red Bull has opted to keep the Mexican. The meeting on Monday in Milton Keynes was to discuss the future of the driver. And according to what was expressed by one of its members, the vote of confidence prevailed in the meeting that was held.

“Checo is still our driver, despite all the rumours. We hope to see him perform on circuits where he has previously performed well, after the summer break,” team boss Christian Horner told the Dutch newspaper.

The issue began to gain momentum after the string of results that began in Emilia Romagna, the seventh race of the calendar. The Guadalajara native had five podiums and everything was going wonderfully. Even during that time, he renewed his contract for two years. The Italian circuit, however, marked the beginning of his downfall. From May 19 until this weekend, at the Belgian Grand Prix, Sergio has a total of 28 points against 141 for his teammate Max Verstappen. In addition, he has not had any podiums in his last eight races and on four occasions he was eliminated at the beginning of the qualifying rounds.

He went from second place to seventh overall.

Despite this situation, the runner-up position he achieved last year and the encouraging numbers he recorded at the start of the campaign were sufficient arguments for Red Bull to give him a second chance.
