The Spanish Lorea Ibarzabal and Lorena Martín said goodbye to their participation in the 800 meters of the Paris Olympics failing to reach the semi-finals in their respective play-offs at the Stade de France.
The one who came closest to making it to the semis was the Madrid native Lorea Ibarzabal, Uriel Reguero’s pupil, who finished her career in third place with 1:59.81, just one hundredth of a second off his personal best and running in less than two minutes for the fourth time. Only Maite Zuñiga and Mayte Martínez have run faster that she does the 800m at the Olympics.
The Salamanca Lorena Martín, also trained by Uriel Reguero, competed in the first series of the repechage and finished seventh. with a time of 2:03.04, a better mark than the one recorded the previous day (2:02.52) in the first qualifying race.
The fastest in the repechage was the German Majtie Kolberg with 1:59.08 and the cut-off time was 1:59.65 by the Swiss Valentina Rosamilia.
