Another milestone for Attiki Odos to turn the page was caught by TAIPED. According to information, the Court of Auditors approved the tender file and mainly the text of the concession contract.
Attiki Odos
In record time, the country’s highest court reviewed and gave its approval for the official closure of the tender process run by the TAIPED.
The Privatization Fund submitted the “file” on July 5 and in less than a month the Audit Court proceeded with the evaluation and issued the approval of the legal text.
GEK TERNA is the investor that bid with 3.27 billion euros in the tender for the concession of the closed highway of Attica.
Signing the contract
According to information, TAIPED estimates that the signings with the new concessionaire will take place immediately after the summer holidays, i.e. in September.
From then on, the time for the new investor to take over the operation, financing, maintenance and exploitation of the Attica Road will count backwards.
The existing concession contract expires in October, while TAIPED estimates that the financial closing of the transaction is expected towards the end of 2024.
The price
It is worth noting that the price offered by GEK TERNA for the assumption of the 25-year concession of the Attica Road, amounts to 3.27 billion euros and corresponds to approximately 2% of GDP.
This is the largest amount with which an investor won a public tender, thus participating in the strengthening of the state’s revenues.
It is worth emphasizing how the expected revenues from the privatizations amount to 5.7 billion euros. Almost 60% comes only from GEK TERNA’s price for Attiki Odos.
The highway
Attiki Odos was built in the 1990s. It is 70 km long and forms the peripheral ring of the greater metropolitan area of Athens and the backbone of the road network of the Prefecture of Attica, where more than 5 million people live.
It is also the connecting link of the PATHE road axis (Patra-Athens-Thessaloniki-Evzoni), since it connects the Athens-Lamia National Road with the Athens-Corinth National Road, bypassing the center of Athens, while also connecting the Athens airport by road with the city center.
