Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz: Dream final in the men’s Olympic tennis tournament

Novak Djokovic is still one win away from putting a golden touch on his unique tennis career. But even before the final against Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday in Paris, the Grand Slam record champion from Serbia felt “relief”. It was the fourth time he had reached an Olympic semi-final and the first time he had overcome this hurdle. “Whatever happens on Sunday, there is so much pride, honor and happiness,” said Djokovic.

The Serb won bronze in Beijing in 2008, and lost in London in 2012 and Tokyo in 2021. “I was thinking about all the semifinals I lost at the Olympic Games, which is why I was so tense on the court,” said the 37-year-old after the 6-4, 6-2 win over Italian Lorenzo Musetti, who had previously knocked out Tokyo Olympic champion Alexander Zverev.

Djokovic is eager for revenge against Alcaraz

But Djokovic would not be the tireless record hunter he is if he were to settle for silver. He is eager to take revenge for his recent defeat and sent a message to Alcaraz. “He beat me in Wimbledon, but the circumstances here are different and I know that I am a better player than I was in Wimbledon,” said Djokovic. On grass at the All England Club, he lost in straight sets three weeks ago.

Nevertheless, Djokovic is happy to accept the role of outsider. Alcaraz (21) is the player of the moment; before Wimbledon he also triumphed at the French Open.
