«Massimo Cotto left us tonight. We at Virgin Radio, his (second) home, want to be the ones to tell you, because Massimo was one of us». Virgin Radio is the one to announce the death of Massimo Cotto with a note. Massimo Cotto was born on May 20, 1962 (he was therefore 62 years old) in Asti, and was an Italian journalist, disc jockey and writer. He hosted «Rock and Talk» on Virgin Radio together with Maurizio Faullisi and Antonello Piroso, and wrote for Il Messaggero. «Massimo was a phenomenal host but also much more. His interviews are masterful. An extraordinary journalist, writer, author, theatre actor always with the desire to tell and (enchant) amaze those in front of him or listening to him.
In 2012 he joined the Virgin Radio family, telling the follies of the great rock artists through the Rock bazar pills and then from 2016 he was on air every morning in Rock and talk with Dr. Feelgood (Maurizio Faulisi) and with the Black Knight (Antonello Piroso). In all these years he has always given us a Good Morning with a smile and with his unmistakable humor (we will never forget his jokes), keeping us company with an infinite passion for music and for all forms of art.
We are close to his family (Chiara, Francesco and his mother Marisa) and to all of you who, like us, loved and appreciated him. Bye Massimo, have a good trip.”
“Dear Massimo, if you are in the wind, may it blow music to accompany your journey. Francesco”. With these words Francesco Guccini remembered Massimo Cotto on his Facebook page, also publishing a black and white photo that portrays the Maestrone together with the journalist, smiling, at his side.
Club Tenco, the memory
“Words. You always had words. You gave us time to prepare ours for you too, but in these weeks we have only continued to hope. And so this morning we have no words. Only a river of tears. Massimo, our friend, thank you and goodbye. It’s early now, but we promise that your words and your rock spirit will continue to travel with us.” It is with these few words, published on social media, that the Club Tenco of Sanremo remembers the journalist and music expert Massimo Cotto, 62, who died in the hospital in Asti, where he had been admitted on July 9 due to illness. Cotto, in fact, had been an artistic collaborator of the Tenco Prize and had been part of the jury of Area Sanremo, the singing competition that awards the winners with access to the Rai final and the possibility of participating in the Sanremo festival. Condolences for his death also come from the Municipality of Sanremo and the Fondazione Orchestra Sinfonica that organizes Area Sanremo. (ANSA).
