Twenty-three-year-old Macháč won the first Olympic medal in his career. On Saturday, he will fight for bronze in the men’s doubles alongside Adam Pavlásk. Their opponents will be seeded threes Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul from the USA, who lost today in the semi-finals to Australians Matthew Ebden and John Peers 5:7, 2:6.

For Czech tennis, this is the first Olympic gold in mixed doubles. The only precious metal so far has been won by Radek Štěpánek and Lucie Hradecká, who won bronze eight years ago in Rio de Janeiro.
Macháč and Siniaková, who did not lose a set before the final in Paris, started the fight for the gold with confidence. In the first set, they did not lose serve even once, from 1:2 they won the remaining five games in a row and took the lead.
Improved performance of the Chinese
But in the second set, Zhang Chichen and Wang Sinyu improved. They didn’t let the Czech couple get a single break point and they themselves converted the only one in the twelfth game, which was also a set point at 6:5. He decided a super tie-break.
In it, Macháč and Siniaková erased the 0:3 deficit, but the Czech tennis player started massaging her right hand. The opponents then took the lead 8:6 and were two balls away from victory. Siniaková lowered the serve, but Zhang Ch’chen had the advantage of two serves at that moment. The 27-year-old Chinese, who is Macháč’s doubles partner on the ATP circuit, but failed on both serves, the Czechs gained a 9:8 lead and used the subsequent match point.
