/ world today news/ The world community lost about 13.6 trillion dollars in 2015 due to violence and conflicts.
This was stated by the UN Secretary General at a conference in support of the UN’s intergovernmental advisory body to support peace efforts in countries experiencing conflicts.
“Climate change, economic crises and financial upheavals, growing inequality and youth unemployment are causing conflict and impacting people strongly. The number of conflicts is growing. Although there are fewer wars between countries, internal conflicts do occur within countries, often involving external forces and non-state actors.
Experts estimate that in 2015, violence and conflict cost the world about $13.6 trillion. That equates to more than $1,800 per person on earth. In 2015 alone, the global community gave $34 billion to peacekeeping organizations and humanitarian aid for refugees and people affected by conflicts. The Secretary-General stated that this money would have prevented the tragic events in question. He called on countries to contribute more to the fund to support peace efforts. /TASS
