Senate recognizes Rhythmic Gymnastics Team that will compete in Olympic Games

Mexico City. The Senate yesterday recognized the Mexican Rhythmic Gymnastics Team, which for the first time managed to qualify for the Olympic Games. Ana Lilia Rivera, president of the upper house, said that this is an extraordinary group of young women who, through their talent and dedication, have taken the name of Mexico to new heights. “It is impossible not to be inspired by their passion and their pursuit of excellence,” she stressed.

The team is made up of Kimberly Salazar López, Dalia de Jesús Alcocer Piña, Julia Irene Gutiérrez Pereyra, Adirem Tejeda Amaro and Ana Sofía Flores Valdez, as well as coach Blajaith Aguilar Rojas, who will represent the country at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Rivera pointed out that rhythmic gymnastics is a discipline that requires talent and absolute dedication, so reaching the level of these athletes requires years of perseverance and consistency, hence becoming the first Mexican artistic gymnastics team to qualify for the Olympic Games is a historic achievement.

After highlighting the efforts of the young women, he explained that their parents are behind them. “In a country where we are still building the infrastructure and the budgets and the possibilities that make us competitive athletes from a young age, the real effort is that of their parents, who detected the opportunity that they had to develop themselves,” he pointed out.

She also told the gymnasts that they will not be alone in Paris, as they will take with them the hearts of all Mexicans, as well as the recognition of the Senate for all the pain and satisfaction that comes with being high-performance athletes; “We are going with you, 130 million people, to compete,” she said.

Reyes Flores Hurtado, Morena senator and organizer of the event, said that qualifying for the Olympic Games reflects the character and talent of each of the members, qualities that they should promote when they compete in France, as this will allow them to access the medals. “Don’t settle, you still have a lot to give, go for more,” he asked.
