The 51-year-old athlete has waited a long time for his moment of international glory and fame. Although he has been a top competitor in his country for decades, it is only now that he has achieved the greatest success of his career. He has previously won medals at the world and European championships, but not at the Olympics.
Complete ease
In this case, however, it is not about the result itself, but about style. In a highly technical sport, in which competitors focus on equipment, the Turek gave the impression of an accidental amateur.
In the final battle against the Serbian team – instead of special shooting lenses or protective covers – he wore ordinary corrective glasses.
He also didn’t need the traditional earmuffs in this sport. His pose completed the whole thing. Dikec didn’t seem to care at all about fighting for the most valuable distinction that can be bestowed upon an athlete. He held an air pistol in his right hand, while his left… was hidden in his pocket.
A sight rarely seen in professional sports competition, let alone at an event as prestigious as the Olympic Games.
Born shooter
At the Chatearoux Shooting Center, the exciting fight for gold was won 16:14 by the Serbs Damir Mikec and Zorana Arunović.
Dikec, competing in a mixed duet with Sevval Ilyada Tarhan, had to settle for silver. However, no one can take away his Olympic medal. And neither can his unexpected moment of fame.
– I didn’t need any special equipment. I’m a natural, born shooter – that’s how he explained his unusual attitude, already as a star of the games.
