It is in La Salamandre that a large collection is organized this Monday, between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. “Cognac is a city of important collection, it is there where we give blood the most”, specifies the doctor. The Cognac collections, which take place once a month, represent nearly 10% of the collections carried out in the entire department. On the other hand, it is also the city where the number of new donors is among the lowest, a difficulty which can be explained by the lack of student population.
This is nonetheless an important gesture to make to save lives, which only takes about an hour, including about ten minutes of the actual collection. This is followed by the obligatory little snack, just to recover and hydrate yourself above all. “There are still about twenty slots available”, for the Cognac collection according to Doctor Rambeau-Octeau, who is preparing to see nearly 120 people pass through, throughout the afternoon. And who advises not to go to a collection on an empty stomach and to remember to drink water, to hydrate yourself properly, in the hours before the collection.
